Merchants of historic downtown Nacogdoches are gearing up to participate in “Small Business Saturday,” next weekend, on Saturday, November 29th. But why celebrate and visit Small Businesses? First there was Black Friday, then Cyber Monday. This year, November 29th is the fifth annual Small Business Saturday, a day to support the local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods around the country. Small Business Saturday is a national movement to drive shoppers to local merchants across the U.S. the day after Black Friday. Downtown Nacogdoches merchants have gotten creative and are using their online marketing tools to bring attention to the event as well. Various merchants around town are also equipped with $25 American Express Gift Cards, such as Aesthetic Concepts, America’s Self Storage, Cricket Wireless, Harry’s Building Materials, Laine’s Hallmark, M&S Pharmacy, Party N Things, Vapor Trails and Zip Nac, courtesy of the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce.
“We are thrilled with the national attention ‘Small Business Saturday’ is gaining,” said Main Street Manager Sarah O’Brien, “What better way to join the movement and show your support for the Nacogdoches economy than by supporting our local small businesses.” Historic Downtown Nacogdoches will come alive next Saturday with the annual Holiday favorite Wassail Fest, part of the Nine Flags Christmas Festival. Fourteen downtown merchants will be brewing their best wassail. Merchants will be vying for the Wassail Trophy by brewing up their own versions of the holiday apple cider. Wassail Fest is sponsored by Citizen’s 1st Bank.
“Without a doubt, I can’t imagine a better celebration of Small Business Saturday, anywhere in the country, than right here in downtown Nacogdoches during Wassail Fest,” said O’Brien.
